Waders
Yes, waders are designed to be waterproof. Waders are typically made from materials that are impermeable to water, such as neoprene, polyester, rubber, or PVC, and are constructed in a way that prevents water from entering the interior of the waders. However, it's important to note that waders can become damaged or worn over time, which can compromise their waterproofing ability. Proper care and maintenance can help extend the life of your waders and ensure that they remain waterproof for as long as possible.
We strive to produce waders to fit almost any body type. So whether you are tall and thin with a small foot or short and stocky with a large foot, we have you covered! Check out the specific sizing chart on each product page. Please call us at 903.787.8654 or email us at info@gatorwaders.com if you have any questions or if you are unsure before ordering.

Breathable waders are designed to be lightweight and versatile. Neoprene waders are designed to insulate and protect from cold weather. We consider breathable waders to be the most versatile wader for waterfowl hunting because you can always create more warmth with smart layering. With neoprene waders, your comfort zone is going to be limited by the insulation built into your waders.

Waders are a type of waterproof clothing typically worn for fishing, hunting, offroading, or general outdoor activities. They are designed to keep the body and feet dry while allowing freedom of movement. Waders are typically made from materials such as neoprene, polyester, rubber, or PVC, and come in a variety of styles and sizes to suit different activities and body types. To learn more click here
Waders are used for a variety of outdoor activities, particularly those that involve being in water and mud. For an in-depth guide to wader uses click here
- Hunting: Hunting waders are often used in wet/muddy environments, such as marshes or swamps.
- Off-Roading: Offroaders use waders to cross shallow rivers and streams or to explore muddy and harder to reach areas.
- Fishing: People often wear waders while fishing to keep their lower body and feet dry so they can fish deeper water, as well as to provide additional insulation in colder weather.
- Outdoor Jobs: Waders can be worn by professionals who need to access bodies of water for their work, such as environmental scientists, catfish farmers, etc..
What to wear under your waders can depend on the temperature and conditions in which you'll be wearing them. Here are a few options for what to wear under your waders: To learn more click here
Base Layers: A base layer is a thin layer of clothing that sits directly against your skin. They are designed to wick away moisture and keep you warm in cold conditions. Synthetic fabrics like polyester or merino wool are good options, as they dry quickly and are less likely to retain odors.
Insulating Layers: In colder weather, you will likely want to wear insulated mid-layers, such as fleece pants or a down jacket under your waders. This will help keep you warm and comfortable while you're outside. Check out our insulated gear here.
Cleaning your waders is an important part of their maintenance, as it can help extend their lifespan and ensure they continue to function properly. To learn more click here
Here are the steps you should follow when cleaning your waders:
Rinse: Begin by rinsing off any dirt or debris from your waders using cool, clean water at a low pressure. This will help loosen any dirt or grime and prevent it from setting into the fabric.
Clean: For lightly soiled waders, use a gentle dish soap to clean the fabric. Avoid using fabric softeners or bleach.
Scrub: Use your hands to scrub any particularly dirty or stained areas of your waders. Be sure to be gentle and avoid using too much pressure, as this can damage the fabric. We do not recommend using a brush.
Rinse again: After cleaning your waders, rinse them again with cool, clean, low pressure water to remove any soap residue.
Dry: Hang your waders up to dry in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Be sure to avoid exposing them to direct sunlight or excessive heat, as this can damage the fabric. Do not use a blow dryer or any other drying machine.
Proper storage of your waders is important for extending their lifespan and ensuring they continue to function properly.
Here are the steps you should follow when storing your waders:
- Make sure they are clean
- Make sure they are dry
- Store in a cool, dry place
When it comes to buying a pair of waders, there are several factors to consider.
These factors include:
Use: Determine the type of activity you'll be using them for, such as fishing, hunting, or offroading, as different activities require different types of waders.
Material: You'll want to consider the material of the waders, as this can impact their durability, breathability, and your comfort level.
Fit: You'll also want to think about the fit of the waders, making sure they are comfortable and properly sized to avoid restriction of movement.
Other important considerations:Other Considerations include the type of boots or socks, the level of insulation, the presence of pockets, and the overall price point of the waders. By taking all of these factors into account, you can find a pair of waders that will suit your needs and provide you with comfort, safety, and protection while you're out enjoying the great outdoors.
There are several types of waders. The types of waders we offer are:
Hip waders/ Hip boots: These waders are designed to cover the legs up to the hip or waist level. They are typically made from rubber or PVC materials and are ideal for shallow waters.
Chest waders: These waders cover the legs and torso up to the chest or shoulders, and are designed for deeper waters. They may be made from rubber, PVC, neoprene, or breathable fabrics, and can be either boot-foot or stocking-foot.
Boot-foot waders:These waders have integrated boots that are attached to the lower portion of the waders. They are typically made from rubber or neoprene and are ideal for use in muddy or marshy terrain.
Waders are not designed or guaranteed to be snakeproof. While they may provide some protection against bites from small snakes, they are not a substitute for proper snake safety precautions, such as avoiding tall grass and wearing thick, protective boots. Some wader materials, such as neoprene, may provide more protection than others, but it is important to remember that no material can guarantee complete protection against snake bites. If you are in an area where snakes are common, it is recommended to take extra precautions to avoid encounters with them.
